Registration Now Open for Bead, Hide & Fur Symposium 2020!
INTRODUCTION
The Yukon First Nations Culture and Tourism Association (YFNCT) is hosting the 2nd annual Bead, Hide & Fur Symposium on March 6-8 at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre. This 2 ½ day symposium and workshop is for Indigenous fine craft artists who work with beads, hide, fur and other natural materials such as quills and fish scales.
The Symposium will explore a variety of topics, share information and ideas, identify challenges and opportunities within the sector and determine ways to continue building a vibrant and viable Indigenous craft industry. The two days of discussion will be in a sewing circle format, with facilitated discussions and learning opportunities throughout.
There will also be 8-10, 4 hour hands-on workshops being offered on Friday, March 6th from 1-5pm and 6-9pm. Workshops will be $40 for registered participants, details will be announced shortly.
All participants are encouraged to bring completed works of art for Show & Share. This can be some of your favorite pieces from your personal or family collection (1-3 items) to be on display throughout the symposium in an informal gallery setting. All artists are encouraged to bring their sewing to work on during the symposium.
There will also be tables available where you can display and sell your work during breaks. You may also bring beading and sewing that you may want to exchange or give away.
REGISTRATION
Registration is open to Indigenous artists that work with beads, hide, fur and other natural materials such as quill and fish scale. Please note that we are opening registration to Indigenous artists from NWT, BC, Alberta and Alaska.
Travel & Accommodation Subsidy
YFNCT will provide a travel subsidy and hotel accommodation to selected artists who live outside of Whitehorse.
If applying for this support, please follow the link and purchase ticket to secure your place. When you get to the payment option, select “Pay at the Door”.
We will notify artists who are selected for this support by February 14th. If you are not selected for travel & accommodation support, or unable to attend, we will cancel your registration.
YFNCT will contact all participants who are selected for support with more information and to complete payment after February 14th.
Fees
- General Registration: $75.00 +GST
- Elders Registration (65+): $50.00 +GST
- Add-On Workshop (Friday, March 6 1-5PM, or 6-9PM): $40.00 +GST * More information will be released shortly.
Deadline to Register
February 10, 2020
Participants will be notified if successful for sponsorship by February 14.
